TOPIC: Postdoctoral Researcher, "The Microfoundations of Government Responsiveness in China"

The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher for the ERC-funded research project "The Microfoundations of Government Responsiveness in China - E-Participation, Social Unrest and Public Policy in China”. The project is comprised of six researchers. It examines which social interests are incorporated into public policy making, and how these decisions influence the propensity of particular social groups to voice their demands by either participating online and/or protesting. The position comes with funds for conducting field research in China and for attending academic conferences. 

The successful applicant will be knowledgeable in the field of China Studies with a focus on Chinese governance or the society of modern China, and will speak and read Chinese fluently. The position will be in the Department of Asian Studies. The successful applicant will have demonstrated an outstanding record in research, as evidenced by publications and worldwide cooperative efforts. Experience in conducting expert interviews in Chinese, programming skills or a background in statistics are an added plus. The successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to the research project in the form of publications and the organization of and participation in conferences and meetings.

The position is a full-time, fixed term renewable appointment and is available immediately. The initial appointment will be for 24 months. Reference No:  6677. The position remains open until filled.
